Preparing for the photo shoot - tips from your newborn photographer in Paris

It is entirely possible—and recommended—to do a little preparation for the photo shoot even if it’s very natural and the photos are taken on the spot. A family photo shoot goes by very quickly, especially when it’s your first one and it’s something completely new to you. It’s therefore important to think a few days in advance about the memories you’d like to see captured in your photos.

Being new parents often means being overwhelmed by emotions, exhaustion, and all the new experiences we couldn’t have anticipated—so don’t add to the stress with a photo shoot that should be nothing but joy and tenderness.

  • Details often make all the difference, even when you don't realize it taking photos in a studio. You might want to make the new grandparents happy by including a family blanket in one of the photos, a pretty hand-knitted baby outfit or the sweater you wore as a baby. Maybe you’d like to take a photo with the stuffed animal your friends gave you, or would you love to see yourself in the picture wearing the shirt that was with you throughout your pregnancy? Don’t wait until the day of the newborn photo shoot to gather all these items that you’ll be happy to see again in your photos in a few years.

  • For a natural newborn photo shoot, I suggest we do the photo shoot in a studio with a rare sense of warmth: your home. Whether you live in Paris or elsewhere in France, I am a newborn who who travels, so please take advantage of this. Feel free to let me know if there are any pieces of furniture that are particularly meaningful to you and that you’d enjoy seeing again when looking at your child’s birth announcement. Knowing how to adapt to your environment—and especially to your child—is one of the most important qualities for a newborn photographer.

  • Send me your ideas for wedding invitations. As you browse the Rosemood, you’ll see that there are countless different options for creating cards that reflect your style. Sending them to me beforehand helps me understand what you like and create professional images that will pair perfectly with them. As a newborn photographer , I’m used to adapting to your wishes.

  • Portraits, family photos, details… anything is possible, and I’ll make it happen. I pay special attention to detail and can promise you that I’ll provide as many different photos as possible in your gallery. However, please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any specific requests or a very clear idea of the photo you’d like to use on the invitation!

Take your time choosing

As a a newborn photographer in Paris, I’m quite particular about the print quality of my photos. I was looking for a French company for printing; I wanted something simple and sleek. I’m not just a newborn photographer and family photographer; I’m also a mom to two little girls. For my eldest, we wanted to create a lovely collage of details. Since both grandmothers knit, I wanted to pay tribute to them by including the newborn outfits they had made during my pregnancy. I took two wide-angle shots and then focused on all the details I wanted to capture: her little hand, her foot, her cute ears. I created the family keepsakes we wanted to preserve as parents through my lens as a birth photographer in Paris. For the second, we obviously wanted to highlight the joy that the arrival of a little sister brought to our family. We wanted a photo of the two sisters in addition to photos of the little one alone, and we chose an announcement that clearly distinguished the two messages we wanted to convey: Little J has arrived; A has become a big sister.

My advice as a newborn photographer:

It’s important to take the time to choose the perfect birth announcement that reflects who you are. It’s a little piece of paper that’s kept for a lifetime and is a joy to look back on as you grow up. I recently came across the birth announcement my parents made when I was born. It’s pretty funny to see how much it matches my personality today.

Through the birth announcement, you share a little piece of your private life with those around you; it’s up to you to choose what you’re willing to reveal. The birth of a child is such a personal moment that it’s important to do things at your own pace and without pressure. There’s no set timeline for sending out announcements; I often hear from clients who are stressed because they haven’t sent them out yet, even though their baby is already 6 months old. If you want my opinion, who cares! What matters is creating personalized memories that reflect who you are, and that’s what I focus on as a a newborn photographer in Paris , I know how to do that 😉

Partnership

After my daughters were born, I wanted to offer my clients deals from high-quality service providers I’d enjoyed working with. As a maternity and newborn photographer, I felt this was essential. So, quite naturally, I wrote to Rosemood, since I’d had a wonderful personal experience with them for my two children’s birth announcements. They responded very quickly and kindly, and I’m thrilled to be able to offer my clients a 10% discount. Of course, there’s absolutely no obligation to use the partners I’ve selected, but it was important to me to be able to give informed recommendations to the families who’ve placed their trust in me. As I mentioned earlier, I pay very close attention to print quality; I want my prints to last a long time without yellowing or losing their vibrancy.
