A Wedding in Paris's 18th Arrondissement

Civil wedding in Paris's 18th arrondissement

The last wedding of 2022 took place right near my home, at the town hall of Paris’s 18th arrondissement. The weddings in Paris’s 18th are always very special moments for me. That’s where I picked up my daughters’ birth certificates, our family record book, and our IDs; I go there for parent-teacher meetings at the daycare… It’s my neighborhood, and I always take great pleasure in accompanying newlyweds there. Anyway, I’m going to tell you a little more about a wedding in Paris’s 18th arrondissement!

A look back at a beautiful wedding ceremony in Paris's 18th arrondissement

When Nicolas’s dad called me because he was looking for a wedding photographer at the town hall in the 18th arrondissement, I was over the moon. First, because I particularly love winter weddings, and especially because it was at my town hall in the 18th arrondissement. This wedding in Paris was a bit stressful, because Nicolas’s fiancée is from the Philippines, so we had to gather a whole bunch of documents before we could stand before the mayor of the 18th arrondissement. We had to make a few trips back and forth to the Philippines, and most importantly, her family wasn’t able to travel to Paris for the event. It’s only a matter of time, though, because a bigger ceremony will take place next year, back home.

I met up with the bride and groom on the steps of the 18th arrondissement town hall; the sun was shining, and so was the laughter. A first civil wedding ceremony in Paris . Just look at the loving gaze of the bride as she signs the marriage certificate!

I don’t photograph many civil weddings; you won’t find them in my brochure or on my website, because I only photograph civil weddings in Paris. I don’t really like traveling for a one-hour assignment—not because it’s a waste of time, but for deeply environmental reasons. However, please don’t hesitate to ask me if I know a photographer in your area; I’d be happy to give you the names of some fantastic professionals.

The Benefits of a Small Civil Wedding

The advantage of a small, intimate civil wedding in Paris is that once the ceremony is over, you can gather together to enjoy a delicious meal or a toast. It also takes some of the stress out of the day of the religious or secular ceremony—there’s less rushing around, and you’re no longer forced to plan your entire day around the time slot assigned by the mayor.
